A Great Greek Grape

Recently, I’ve been watching a lot of people shout out about greek wines. I’m going to level with you - despite my study and penchant for all things grape - I'm relatively new to the greek wine scene, tentatively dipping my toes into the warm sea of native great grape varieties that just can't be produced anywhere else.

There are hundreds of grape varieties that are native to the islands of Greece - and they are producing some fabulous wine.

I still have so much to learn and try from this amazing country but recently, I picked up this Assyrtiko and have been pleased with the taste vs price - at under a tenner you get a wine that is like dancing into a field of white flowers, twirling and singing (the sound of music style), feasting on a plate of apples and passion fruit all with an insanely high limey acidity. This makes it perfect to pair with any kind of fish, but I'd recommend it with a piece of grilled rainbow trout, fresh salad and a lemony vinaigrette.

You can find this one at your local Majestic Wine Warehouse.
