What sparked your passion?
…For the first time I could taste the layers and the complexities and I wanted to know more. Why was this different to any other wine I had…what made it so special.
Welcombe Hills Vineyard
English Wine Week, is a great opportunity to learn more about our wines, and what better way to kick off summer than with a nice bottle of chilled English Sparkling.
What is Orange Wine?
The addition of the grape skins at fermentation give Orange Wine more complexity, changing the flavours, colour and texture.
Wine in focus: Cozy Down Now
A Romanian special. A fruity blend of Feteasca Neagra, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bursting full of red and black fruit.
Wine in focus: Born Rosé
‘We believe that the world of wine can be more laid-back and fun’. A small spotlight on the Born Rosé brand.
Your spring wine selection
Spring is one of my favourite times of the year to put together wines. Here are my top picks.
Grape Invaders
As with a traditional Cahors this is a beautiful French Malbec. A modern, fresh take with a fun label which certainly has shelf appeal. After spending time fermenting in Concrete this wine gets finished in french oak for a few months which gives it the famous Cahors depth, but without becoming overpowering.
The Great Bonza
The Great Bonza, Reserve Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. A bottle adorned with award stickers and a foil hot air balloon that certainly catches your attention.
Spanish Wine: El Vinculo Crianza
I was lucky enough to join a Spanish Wine Tasting with Fine Wines Direct. We explored a variety of what Spain has to offer, from the famous Rioja region through to the stonkingly hot, desert plains of La Mancha (it was raining and cold here when I did the tasting…jealous much).
English Sparkling: Ellercombe
Taking grapes from all over the English South Downs this Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Munier Ellercombe blend is exclusive to Sainsburys.
Your guide to the most loved Sparkling Wines
You know I like a guide - so here's yours for the most well known sparkling wine types, each in 3(ish) sentences.
Vermouth
These 3 bottles of Vermouth are by Gonzalez Byass (you may recognise these guys as big players in the Sherry world). Their production of Vermouth goes back to Victorian times, the recipe is kept under lock and key, and is considered one of the best kept secrets in the drinks world.
Gusborne English Sparkling
Gusborne can be recognised by its famous 'Goosemark' badge, a rework of the crest of the original family of the estate. It marks each bottle, as a sign of trust and quality.
English Sparkling: Davenport
As you can possibly tell.. I'm enjoying the world of bubbles right now, in particular exploring a few of the smaller English Sparkling wines on offer.
Côtes du Rhône
Why is Côtes du Rhône wine just so damn popular? Well apart from being some of the oldest vineyards in history, planted when the Rhône was being used as a highway through France by the Romans, winemakers there have learnt how to cultivate over 21 well balanced grape varieties that can go into their blends.
Garden of Italy
I have always been a great lover of Italian wine. The history, the romance, the story…the taste!
Summer Rosé - Cono Sur
This wine, is a supermarket buy from Chilean winery Cono Sur, who's purpose is to bring expressive wines into the market that convey the spirit of the new world.
Champagne: A supermarket guide
Taittinger Champagne’s leading label, the Brut Réserve is a familiar sight on our supermarket shelves. Known for its elegance and finesse, derived from a high percentage of Chardonnay in their wines they offer brilliant value for money.
