01. WOTW - Domäne Wachau Riesling Federspiel

What better way to kick off our wine of the week series than this 2017 Riesling Federspiel from Domäne Wachau in Austria. The name Federspiel comes from the medieval word for falconry. The falcon is now the symbol of Federspiel wines from the Wachau region.

This wine delivers a medium body, lip smacking acidity and fresh fruit flavours of peaches and pear, along with dried apricots and honeysuckle.

The versatility of this wine means it can be paired with a whole host of things. We tried it with Thai Green Curry, where it balanced out the spices of the curry and the fresh fruit flavours were bought out to the forefront. Later we had it with Cadburys Dairy Milk Easter eggs.

This Riesling delivers on both the palette and the nose - so much so that the cat couldn’t stop smelling the glass once we’d finished!
