Sun, Snow and Sauvignon Blanc - The best mountain drinks
I love the snow. Every year I make sure I get some time in the mountains. With the cold conditions I have my go to wines.
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc: with its ripe lemons, puckering acidity and served super chilled (well I can keep the bottle in the snow all around me) this is the perfect one for a mid hike/mid ski refresher on a sunny day.
Local wines: Our lates trip to St Anton meant we got a wealth of Austrian grape varieties like Zweigelt and Grüner Veltliner. If it’s grown there, the likelihood that it will taste brilliant when you’re there is high.
Glühwein: When the cold is starting to get to you, holding a nice hot steaming mug of gently spiced deliciousness helps to thaw you out perfectly, especially when drank in front of a fire with an amazing view out the window.
Beer: Alright, not strictly wine but an ice cold beer (or 3) during a wild après party is perfect. Not only is it easy to order at a busy après bar, but it’s easy drinking and if you spill a bit whilst you are dancing it doesn’t matter.
Whatever your drink of choice, enjoy the mountains, the sun and the snow.
