Waterford Distillery

How often do you think about traceability in your drinks?

Waterford Distillery pride themselves in being the world's most traceable whisky, where each bottle has a unique code where you can learn more about the farm, the harvest and the barley. Pretty cool huh?

What’s more their CEO Mark Reynier was born into a family of wine merchants, and his passion for all things abv grew from there filtering out of wine and into spirits.

“Coming from a wine background I have always been intrigued by how the very greatest Bordeaux wines were made. Rather than generically bundling up their grapes in to a single wine they went to the effort of making several individual wines instead, each one expressing a terroir-derived personality of its own. Only after months of maturation are these component wines assembled – each bringing its own flavour character – to make a single profound wine of greater complexity, the Grand Vin. Why not with whisky? This is the vision seven years in the making, the essence of the Waterford project.” (Quote taken from the Waterford website)

The Cuvée is their flagship whisky, a blend of 25 unique Single Farm Origin whiskies, creating something g truly unique. A lighter, fruitier style of Whisky with bruised apples, oranges and chocolate - perfect for this time of year. At 50% abv I personally liked mine with a slow melting large ice cube to soften it as I was drinking.

I was sent one of these beautiful bottles, along with a hamper of fine French cheeses, chocolate and jams, all of which were a delight to eat alongside the Whisky.

The Cuvée sells at approx £70 but the Waterford full range of organic and biodynamic Whisky's can be found direct or on Master of Malt. The perfect gift for any Whisky lover who wants to try something unique.

p.s, yes you read biodynamic whisky correct! Waterford’s Luna is the worlds first. Made from biodynamic Barley, with the quest to create the most authentic and natural flavours. The next one on my list.
